Ecampus celebrates 11 years in U.S. News’ Top 10 Ranking

Oregon State University Ecampus enters its second decade as a national leader in online undergraduate education, earning a Top 10 ranking from U.S. News & World Report for the 11th consecutive year.

This accomplishment of more than a decade as a nationally top-ranked institution is one that no other college or university – public or private – can claim. And this should make us all immensely proud.

The College of Business is ranked No. 5 for Best Online Business Bachelor’s Programs, our third year in a national Top 5 position.

Ecampus, with its extensive portfolio of more than 50 online undergraduate degree offerings (ranging from botany to business analytics), shows its consistent strength, vision and excellence with a national No. 7 ranking for Best Online Bachelor’s Programs.

U.S. News, which is the recognized “gold standard” of higher education rankings, scored our online MBA at No. 46 for its second consecutive appearance in the national Top 50.

As we celebrate this milestone of academic excellence, we note how these students’ success highlights many of the college’s important goals.

“Expanding access to a high-quality business education for students, no matter where they are, remains a critical priority,” said College of Business Dean Tim Carroll. “Our efforts to enhance both on-campus and online programs reflect a shared commitment from our faculty and our partners at Ecampus to meet the needs of students while staying true to our land-grant mission. Together, we are making business education more inclusive and accessible.”

Carroll recognizes the efforts of the college’s faculty, deans and academic advisors as well as council members and industry advisors to create, finetune and launch degree offerings that are in demand in the job market.

“Oregon State University is consistently ranked as a top 100 public university for on-campus education,” Carroll said. “What sets us apart is the persistence and innovation we’ve brought to online learning. This consistent recognition as a leader in high-quality online education demonstrates how we’ve stayed ahead of the curve while expanding access to life-changing educational opportunities for students everywhere.”

Bringing the College of Business’ wide range of degree offerings fully online was a heavy lift requiring seamless teamwork. The initiative resulted in national recognition for excellence but also made good on the promise of bringing educational opportunities to students everywhere.

The college has about 4,500 undergraduates as of fall 2024, and one-quarter of these students are online learners. Four years ago, online students accounted for about 10% of our total. The Class of 2024, 942 graduates in total, awarded 157 degrees to Ecampus students. Three-quarters of them were transfer students, and the opportunity to complete their degree online at the College of business empowered them and had a positive impact on individuals, their families and their communities.

Within online graduate business programs, working professionals recognize the value of a flexible, high quality online environment. More than 60% of College of Business graduate students are pursuing their degree fully online, up 20 points in four years.

“As we prepare to welcome even more online students from across the state, nation, and globe, I am proud that the College of Business recognized the strategic importance of online learning early on,” Carroll said. “This growth reflects our commitment to expanding opportunities for learners everywhere while strengthening our reputation as a leader in business education.”

Altogether OSU Ecampus serves more than 15,000 students from all 50 states and over 60 countries and works with more than 1,200 faculty to assure standards of excellence in online higher education.
